I’ve been loving reading blogs with a 2017 recap as I’ve been home and enjoying some time away from work, so I thought I would write up a quick one for myself/Satisfy as well! One of my goals this year is to recap throughout so that next December it’s easy to zoom out and review.
2017 was a year of growth, in business and in my personal life.
I passed my RD exam on August 15 and it was the most joyful I’ve ever felt upon meeting any kind of academic accomplishment. For as long as I can remember, milestones in school flowed into and out of one another and built on each other – so the ACT led to getting into college led into getting into a program led to graduating led to getting an internship. I’m still chipping away at my Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition, but finally putting “RDN” behind my name felt like I finally arrived somewhere, ya feel?
I married my high school sweetheart on August 26 (yes, 11 days after the RD exam) and it was the best day. A million and one things didn’t go according to plan, I could barely eat out of nerves and dress snugness, and we’re still wrapping up loose ends like returning vases – but we’re building a marriage more beautiful than our wedding and I think that’s the most exciting thing of all.
Two days after our wedding, we packed up my car and moved me to a tiny town in Idaho, where Drew’s been living + working for the last year while I did my internship. I’m leaning towards doing some kind of vlog/blog post situation about this, but the transition was hard. I’d be lying if I said I had a positive attitude going into my move, but the last four months have been refining. I feel like I’ve been able to be more content with the life stage we’re in + allow myself to slow down and enjoy our new community. One thing that really helped (no, seriously) was adopting a kitten – it’s so nice to have something/someone to go home TO when we travel and it makes our place feel like a home. Speaking of…
Pascal joined our family in November and he’s the most fierce little floof you’ve ever met! He likes to nap on us, sit on our shoulders, and groom the back of Drew’s head (?) while he works at his desk. Up on his agenda for 2018: grow and grow, get fixed (don’t tell him!) and learn how to walk on a leash. Stay tuned for how that one goes.
Creating this blog and committing to a schedule is one of my biggest milestones for Satisfy! I’ve wanted to have a blog/private practice for so long, and I can see it all coming together. I blogged more, launched meal plans, and opened up nutrition coaching appointments. There weren’t huge defining moments, but I think overall it was a great start to what I hope will be a long-standing business that brings food and body respect/peace to many, many women.
I haven’t shared a ton about this on the blog/social media, but I was in a huge car accident in January during which my tiny Honda Fit was totaled by a semi. Wrapping up the legal proceedings was a huge milestone for me, and the financial and emotional stress is starting to fade more and more as time goes on. I’m hoping to share more about that whole experience and how it related to my mental/physical health in a month or so, but the accident really set an anxious tone for 2017. I spent a lot of time worrying about taking time off to recover, managing financially, and generally just being stressed about being in a lawsuit. It obviously was a less-than-positive experience, but I think it’s important to acknowledge such a huge part of my year in a 2017 recap.
2018 SNEAK PEEK
This portion is weird to write because it’s like creating a teaser trailer for my own life. I find it exciting, but if you don’t, feel free to move on and come back Tuesday for a new nutrition post. 😉 Also, I decided to share my Powersheets monthly this year so this is more of a “things I’m excited for list” than a goals list.
- Take more hikes with Drew and explore the western states. Up on our radar are: Yosemite, Yellowstone, and any and all Idaho parks.
- Take a two-week trip to Europe with Drew’s family!
- Dig into the Intuitive Eating workbook and get to know my body better.
- Host a webinar (or two or three or more)!
- Continue to blog consistently.
- Create more recipes.
- Work with private practice clients!
